About Me

About Me

My name is Carmen Serrano Luna and I was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico. My first experience as an artist was when I was in middle school. My greatest influence was my art teacher, Norberto Ruiz Nieves. He introduced me to Puerto Rican artists of times past like Francisco Oller and Oscar Colón Delgado. It was then that I realized that I wanted to become an artist. As a self-taught artist, I went on to study through practical experience, learning through trial and error, and studying the works of Oller, Colón-Delgado, Frida Khalo, Diego Rivera, and many others. It was here that I further expanded my knowledge in drawing and painting. I work primarily with acrylic, charcoal and graphite and I currently work from my home in Newark, NJ. I hold a diploma in digital design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I have worked for the public-school system in New Jersey for more than 20 years, and currently, I am the Operations Assistant Manager at local school in Newark, NJ.
